☀️ Stoic Morning Minute

❝

"gentleness is invincible, if it be genuine and not sneering or hypocritical."

Marcus Aurelius, Meditations 11.18 (excerpt)

💭 Modern Translation:

"Fine" can carry a lot of frost. Your friend declines your advice, and suddenly your replies get shorter. Marcus puts a condition on gentleness: it has to be genuine, which means a friend should be able to refuse your advice without having to thaw the friendship afterward.

⚡️ Your Move:

Before the weekend starts, stop trying to persuade someone who's already said no. Say: "Okay. I'm here if you need me." Then talk to them as warmly as before.

🤔 Today's Question:

Does your warmth depend on people taking your advice?

Stay warm,

Jon

P.S. Hit reply: what's your tell when "fine" doesn't mean fine?
