"Fault is past tense. Responsibility is present tense."

Mark Manson, The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck, Ch. 4

💭 Modern Translation

The layoff was unfair. Your friend let you down. You don't have to pretend otherwise or take the blame. But knowing whose fault it was doesn't tell you what to do today. Responsibility starts there: with the next choice you can actually make.

⚡️ Your Move

Pick one grievance you keep re-litigating. Say the fault sentence once. "It was unfair when ___." Then switch tenses. "Today, I'm responsible for ___." Notice which one you can act on.

🤔 Today's Question

Which sentence are you still living in?

Switch tenses,

Jon
